Rose-Carved Olive Wood Rosary with Jerusalem Holy Soil
FIVE-DECADE ROSARY
Handcrafted rosary in Bethlehem from olive wood gathered in the Holy Land. Made for the slow, daily work of prayer.
✞︎ Due to the handmade nature of the product each rosary might slightly differ.
The rosary takes its name from the rose — rosarium, a garland of roses offered to Our Lady. This one makes that connection literal. Every one of the 59 beads is individually carved with a spiral rose pattern, the petals turning inward in concentric relief across the surface of each bead. Run them through the fingers and the carving is unmistakable — each decade a garden, each bead its own bloom. At 20.5 in (52 cm) and 1 oz (35 g), with large 0.7 in (18 mm) beads, this is a rosary that fills the hand and rewards attention.
Craftsmanship & Design
The beads are turned from Holy Land olive wood — pale honey-gold in tone, lighter than the deeper amber of standard olive wood rosaries — and then carved individually, the spiral rose cut into the surface of each sphere before stringing. The result is a bead that is tactile, visually striking, and unlike anything produced by machine: the depth of the carving varies slightly from bead to bead, the wood grain runs differently through each one, and the shadows caught in the spiral grooves shift as the light changes. Linked with stainless steel wire, the strand moves freely and holds its shape through daily use.
Madonna & Jerusalem Soil Centrepiece
The centrepiece carries the rosary's Marian heart on its face: a silver-tone oval medal bearing Our Lady with the Child Jesus in fine bas-relief, the Madonna's profile quiet and composed, the infant held close. The frame is ornate silver filigree — detailed enough to match the craftsmanship of the carved beads around it. On the reverse, a domed glass capsule holds a portion of holy soil from Jerusalem, engraved Terra Jerusalem around the rim — the sacred ground of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, sealed into the pivot of the rosary.
The rose, Our Lady, and Jerusalem: three of the oldest symbols in Catholic Marian devotion, all present in a single rosary. Together they create a rosary that feels intentionally Marian in every detail, from the carved rose beads to the Madonna and Child medal at its centre.
Holy Land Connection
Carved and assembled by Christian craftsmen in Bethlehem, this rosary brings together the two materials that define Holy Land devotional craft — olive wood from the hills around the city, and holy soil from Jerusalem. The rose carving is part of a long tradition of decorative olive wood work practised in Bethlehem, where artisans have worked the wood into devotional objects for generations. Each rosary comes with a Certificate of Authenticity confirming its origin.
Gifting
A rosary with rose-carved beads carries a visual language that speaks before it is even explained. It suits First Communion, Confirmation, a Marian feast day such as the Assumption or Our Lady of the Rosary, Mother's Day, or any occasion where a devotional gift needs to be both meaningful and beautiful. Its combination of rose-carved beads, Marian symbolism, and Jerusalem Holy Soil makes it an especially meaningful gift for anyone devoted to Our Lady and the Rosary.
Care Instructions
Wipe beads with a soft dry cloth. The carved surface may collect dust in the spiral grooves — a soft dry brush will clear this without damaging the carving. Keep away from prolonged moisture. The holy soil capsule is sealed and should not be opened. A light application of olive oil will maintain the warmth of the wood if the surface appears dry.

Handmade Rosary from Bethlehem Olive Wood
Olive wood has long been part of Christian devotion, especially around Bethlehem, where the trees grow slowly across the hills of the Holy Land. The grain shifts naturally from bead to bead, giving each handmade olive wood rosary its own warmth and character.
Every rosary in this collection is shaped, drilled, and assembled by Christian artisans in Bethlehem, often in family workshops that have practised the craft for generations. Each bead is sanded and finished by hand, with tones ranging from soft honey to deeper amber. Some designs are finished with a simple olive wood cross, while others include a crucifix or devotional centrepiece.
An olive wood rosary is made to be prayed often — kept beside a bed, carried in a pocket, or held quietly during daily prayer. For many Catholics, a handmade rosary from Bethlehem remains one of the most meaningful Christian gifts connected to faith, pilgrimage, and tradition.
