IC XC & Eastern Christian Symbolism

On either side of Christ appear the Greek letters IC XC, a traditional abbreviation of the Greek name Jesus Christ that appears throughout Orthodox icons, crosses, liturgical objects, and sacred art.

The inscription identifies the figure at the centre of the pendant while connecting this small olive wood crucifix with a much older tradition of Eastern Christian devotional imagery.
