PRODUCT INFORMATION

A Roman Catholic budded olive wood crucifix handcrafted in the Holy Land, featuring the traditional trefoil cross form, a silver-tone corpus beneath the INRI plaque, and four gold-rimmed capsule windows containing sacred Holy Land elements. At 9.4 in (24 cm) and 7 oz (200 g), this standing altar crucifix is one of the most complete devotional pieces in the collection. Each crucifix is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Craftsmanship & Catholic Budded Design

Handcrafted from genuine Holy Land olive wood, this crucifix follows the classic budded cross form, also known as a trefoil cross. Each arm ends in a three-lobed terminal, a shape long associated with the Holy Trinity in Catholic and Western Christian art.

The budded design gives the crucifix a more formal and liturgical character than a plain Latin cross, making it especially suitable for Roman Catholic prayer spaces, home altars, chapel shelves, parish offices, and devotional display. The raised central ridge along the beams adds structure and depth, while the natural olive wood grain gives each piece its own unique colour, tone, and character.

The silver-tone corpus is mounted in full relief, showing Christ wearing the Crown of Thorns, with detailed drapery, visible wounds, and a traditional INRI plaque above. The flat olive wood base allows the crucifix to stand securely on an altar, prayer table, desk, shelf, or bedside devotional space.

The Four Holy Elements of the Holy Land

Four gold-rimmed capsule windows are sealed into the budded terminals of the cross, each containing one of the Four Holy Elements connected to the Holy Land and Christian tradition.

Holy Soil from Jerusalem recalls the city of Christ's Passion, Crucifixion, Burial, and Resurrection. For many Christians, Jerusalem holy soil serves as a tangible connection to the ground where the central events of the faith took place.

Olive Leaves connect the crucifix to the olive groves of the Holy Land, the Mount of Olives, and the Garden of Gethsemane, where Christ prayed before His Passion. The olive branch has also long symbolised peace, hope, and reconciliation.

Franciscan Incense from Bethlehem reflects the long tradition of Christian prayer and worship in the birthplace of Christ. Incense has been used in Catholic liturgy for centuries as a sign of prayer rising before God.

Dried Rose Petals represent the Marian dimension of Catholic devotion. The rose has long been associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary in Catholic prayer, art, and symbolism, recalling purity, love, and spiritual beauty.

Together, these elements make this more than a decorative crucifix. They create a physical connection to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Marian devotion, and the sacred landscape of the Holy Land.

Roman Catholic Altar Crucifix

This standing Catholic altar crucifix is designed for devotional spaces where the crucifix should remain visible during prayer. Its freestanding base makes it suitable for a home altar, prayer corner, chapel shelf, parish office, desk, bedside table, or family devotional area.

The combination of the budded cross form, silver-tone corpus, Four Holy Elements, and Holy Land olive wood gives this piece a distinctly Catholic identity. It is ideal for those seeking a traditional crucifix with deeper devotional meaning and a direct connection to the places of the Gospel.

Holy Land Craftsmanship & Authenticity

Each crucifix is handcrafted from olive wood by Christian artisans working within the long devotional craft tradition of the Holy Land. Olive wood has been used for generations to create crosses, rosaries, and sacred objects connected to the land of the Bible.

The included Certificate of Authenticity confirms the Holy Land origin of the crucifix and the sacred elements sealed within it. Natural variations in the olive wood grain make every piece unique.

Catholic Gift from the Holy Land

This Roman Catholic budded crucifix makes a meaningful gift for ordination, priestly anniversary, Confirmation, First Communion, RCIA completion, house blessing, wedding, new home blessing, or pilgrimage remembrance.

Its freestanding altar format and Four Holy Elements make it especially suitable as a permanent centrepiece for a Catholic home altar, prayer table, chapel shelf, or family devotional space. It may also be brought to a priest for blessing before devotional use.

Care Instructions

Wipe the olive wood with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, direct sunlight, or direct heat. The Holy Element capsules are sealed and require no care. Handle the silver-tone corpus gently and avoid abrasive cloths or cleaning products.

Olive Wood Budded Catholic Crosses
Handcrafted in the Holy Land

The budded cross — sometimes called a trefoil or apostles' cross — finishes each arm with three small rounded shapes. In Catholic tradition, those three buds are most often read as a quiet symbol of the Trinity, and sometimes as the twelve apostles when counted across all four ends. It's one of the gentler forms in Christian symbolism, and a favourite for prayer spaces and bedside walls.

These crosses are hand-shaped by artisans in Bethlehem, working olive wood from groves that have stood for generations. The trefoil ends ask for patience — each curve has to be cut and smoothed individually — and the result is a piece that feels softer and more domestic than a plain Latin cross. Olive wood's natural variation means every cross carries its own grain and its own warmth.

A budded cross sits well in family prayer corners, above children's beds, or in the hands of someone receiving First Communion or Confirmation. Some designs feature mother-of-pearl inlay at the centre; others are kept simple, letting the budded ends do the speaking.

Questions About Budded Catholic Crosses

What do the three buds on each arm represent?

The most common reading is the Holy Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — repeated at each end of the cross. Some traditions also count the twelve buds across all four arms as the twelve apostles.

Is the budded cross more Catholic than Orthodox?

The trefoil-ended cross is used across Christian traditions, but it's especially common in Roman Catholic and Anglican contexts. You'll see it on church spires, on episcopal staves, and in family homes.

Is this a good cross for a child's room?

Yes. The softer, rounded shape feels gentler than a plain Latin cross, which is part of why budded crosses are often chosen for children's rooms and nurseries.

Can these be given for First Communion or Confirmation?

They're one of the more popular sacramental gifts for both. The Trinity symbolism makes them especially fitting for the moments when a child is more deeply received into the Church.

Why do trefoil designs take longer to carve?

Each of the twelve buds has to be shaped and smoothed by hand, and the curves have to match across all four arms. It's slower work than carving a simple straight cross.

Are mother-of-pearl details included on every piece?

No. Some designs include inlay at the centre; many don't. The product images show what's included on each piece.

How do I clean olive wood without damaging it?

A soft dry cloth is enough for everyday dust. Avoid water and avoid chemical cleaners. A light rub with food-safe oil once a year is plenty if the wood ever looks dry.
